Meet Dr. Newell
David A. Newell, DDS
Dr. David Newell is passionate about the profession of dentistry and his responsibility to his patients’ dental health. His philosophy is to create an individual plan for optimum dental health that will allow each patient to maintain strong teeth, healthy gums, and a beautiful smile for a lifetime. Dr. Newell enjoys treating patients of all ages and maintaining these relationships for years; he treats every patient as he would his own family members. For Dr. Newell, it has never been acceptable to be an average dentist or to deliver average results - he has always aimed to maintain the highest standards of excellence and to exceed expectations.
Dr. Newell is a native to Northern Nevada, and is honored to call the Carson Valley his home. He received his undergraduate degree in Health Sciences from the University of Nevada, Reno. During this time, he had the distinct experience of becoming a trained dental laboratory technician; this experience gave him a unique perspective and appreciation of dentistry, and a valuable start to his career. Dr. Newell completed his dental training at the University of Washington School of Dentistry in Seattle, Washington. Throughout dental school he received many awards, scholarships, and special recognition for his work in academics, student leadership, restorative dentistry, dental implants, and dental materials. Following graduation from dental school he returned to Northern Nevada to begin dental practice. He maintained an excellent dental practice in Sparks for nearly 10 years until relocating to Minden in 2014 to continue practicing dentistry in the Carson Valley. Year after year Dr. Newell continues to dedicate substantial time, focus, and energy to continuing his dental education and persistent pursuit of knowledge in all aspects of dental medicine. He places important emphasis on the areas of advanced restorative dentistry, implant dentistry, and digital technologies. He also continues to serve his patients and his profession through his work with local dental societies and study clubs. For the past 10 years Dr. Newell has served as the dental consultant for the State of Nevada Department of Rehabilitation, providing consultations and treatment planning for patients with dental disabilities.
In his spare time, Dr. Newell thoroughly enjoys spending time with his family, and is the proud father of his three children. He is an avid outdoorsman; he appreciates the fine art of fly fishing, backpacking and camping in the Sierras, skiing and snowboarding, and playing soccer both indoors and outdoors.
Meet Dr. Flynn
Katie M. Flynn, DMD
Dr. Katie Flynn is dedicated to providing thoughtful, high-quality dental care while building lasting relationships with her patients. Her philosophy centers on creating individualized treatment plans that support long-term oral health, confidence, and beautiful smiles. Dr. Flynn believes dentistry should never be “one size fits all,” and she strives to deliver care that is both comprehensive and personal—treating every patient with the same respect and attention she would give her own family.
Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, Dr. Flynn earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Nevada, Reno. After graduating from UNR, she gained valuable hands-on experience working as both a dental assistant and front desk receptionist in dental practices throughout Nevada. This early exposure to all aspects of a dental office shaped her appreciation for patient care, communication, and the importance of a well-run, patient-focused practice.
Dr. Flynn went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine. During her final year, she was accepted into the highly selective Honors Esthetics Program—an achievement reserved for top clinical students with a strong aptitude for cosmetic and esthetic dentistry. This experience further refined her skills and reinforced her commitment to excellence and precision.
Following dental school, Dr. Flynn returned to Northern Nevada, where she practiced alongside Dr. Newell’s previous partner in Sparks for three years before relocating to Dayton, Nevada. She is passionate about modern dentistry and has fully embraced digital technologies to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and patient comfort. Dr. Flynn remains committed to staying current with advancements in the field and continually elevating the standard of care she provides.
Dr. Flynn is an active member of the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Nevada Dental Association (NDA), and she proudly serves as a delegate for the Northern Nevada Dental Association. Through her professional involvement, she continues to support both her patients and the dental community while being involved in her local study club.
When she’s not in the office, Dr. Flynn cherishes time spent with her husband, their daughter, and their three crazy dogs who keep life fun and busy. She loves gathering with friends, getting outside to hike and explore Northern Nevada, and tackling home improvement projects as a family. Dr. Flynn is grateful to call the Carson Valley home and finds great joy in serving this close-knit community, building genuine relationships, and caring for generations of local families.
